Horrific Hotel Chain Reviews That Will Have Guests Thinking Twice About Booking
Walking into a hotel, the last thing a person wants is a dirty room, complete with a flooded bathroom, hair in the sink, and stained towels on the floor.
Thankfully, TripAdvisor reviewers have spoken, and after reading some first-hand accounts, people might think twice about staying at certain hotel chains.
Best Western Hotels Have The Worst Bathrooms
The Best Western Hotel chain is a go-to for many travelers, as they tend to be situated next to airports. The thing is, the ease doesn't mean people should book a stay.
According to one guest, Best Western has some of the grossest bathrooms around. On TripAdvisor, they wrote, "There was something floating in the toilet when we got there."
There Is No Swimming In The Pool At The Econo Lodge
A swimming pool is a huge draw for many guests, especially during the summertime. Sadly, there is no swimming in the pool at the Econo Lodge, which seems to never have been cleaned, according to one TripAdvisor reviewer.
The review stated, "Swimming pool out of service, very dirt, and in need of repairs." And that's not even counting the smokey smell in the bedrooms!
Moldy Air At The Hyatt Place Hotels
Breathing in moldy, polluted air is the last thing a hotel guest should worry about. That is if the guest isn't staying at one of the Hyatt Place Hotels. There, the air vents are littered with dust and mold.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said, "We called the front desk because the [air vent rattling] noise was even worse, and then it also smelled like burnt plastic or something, and we were concerned about breathing this in."
Gross Bathrooms Await People Staying At The Best Value Inn
One of the worst things is walking into a dirty bathroom, especially if that bathroom isn't in the comfort of your own home. Alas, the Best Value Inn didn't get that memo and, according to TripAdvisor reviewers, has unsanitary bathrooms.
One reviewer stated, "the bathroom was something out of a boys frat house! There was thick soap scum, stains, and hair all in the bathtub, the shower curtain had mildew growing on it..."
A Raging Inferno At The Hilton
Hiltons Hotels tend to have a pretty good reputation. But not all locations are created equal, as one guest experienced a raging inferno in their room and was not compensated for the awful experience.
On TripAdvisor, the guest wrote, "Arrived at 3 pm Sunday afternoon and noticed the room was warm. I set the AC at 65 and left for a couple of hours. I returned to find the temp at 79 degrees. I called the front desk and complained. The manager called back an hour later and offered to comp the stay. So far, I have been unable to receive the refund."
Blood-Stained Sheets At The Baymont Inn
Unless a guest feels like being in the middle of Making a Murderer, don't stay at the Baymont Inn. One reviewer stated they found bloodstains not only on their sheets but down the walls, too!
Their TripAdvisor review stated, "We are pretty sure that a murder was committed in our room...there were many blood splatters on the wall, and the bedding also had what appeared to be old bloodstains." Yikes.
Don't Eat The Food At The Comfort Inn
Many hotels offer a complimentary breakfast for guests staying with them. Sadly, this doesn't mean the hotel does much. Take the Comfort Inn. According to one guest, there was no food available.
Their TripAdvisor reviewer stated, "In the morning heading down to breakfast at only 8 am there was almost nothing there...The cereal was stale! The rest of the food available was sitting on the counter in bags!"
Dirty Towels At The Holiday Inn
The Holiday Inn is a go-to hotel chain for many people. It is affordable and, for the most part, clean. Well, clean except for the used bath towels hanging on the door.
According to one TripAdvisor reviewer, their towels were stained and crumbled up in the bathroom when they arrived, bringing the chain's rating down from five stars to three.
The Rooms At The Days Inn Need A Thorough Scrubbing
The amount of days it takes to realize the Days Inn is not a great hotel chain is about one. According to guests, the rooms are filthy, especially the carpets.
One TripAdvisor review said, "This place is nasty and dirty. Carpets are so nasty; when you walk on them, your feet turn black."
DoubleTree Hotels Have Stains On Top Of Stains
While DoubleTree by Hilton tends to be a four-star chain, one guest thought it deserved nothing more than one. According to them, there were stains on top of the stains in their room!
Their TripAdvisor review said, "The hotel is one big hot mess. It is filthy - the stains on the carpets have stains! The bedding was stained."
The Staff At The AC Hotels Don't Seem To Care
Aside from the grimy rooms at the AC Hotels, the staff doesn't really seem to care much that they are in hospitality. One guest had a horrible experience and was given no apology, not to mention housekeeping didn't bother switching out dirty towels.
Their TripAdvisor review stated, "It seems like this hotel's standard is to do the bare minimum."
Crowne Plaza Doesn't Clean Their Rooms Properly
A dirty hotel room is not a place where people want to stay. According to one guest, this includes the mildew-smelling and stain-infested rooms at the Crowne Plaza.
In their TripAdvisor review, the guest wrote, "The elevators and hallways smell like mildew, and the rooms smell worse. There are stains everywhere, and fixtures look dusty. Our room was barely bearable."
Motel 6 Is A Haven For Crime
Motel 6 might not be on a lot of people's lodging lists, but a lot of people do stay here. Those people should think again, considering the amount of crime that happens at these chains.
In 2019, an actual skeleton was found in a Motel 6 located in Owensboro, Kentucky!
Long Hair On Everything At The La Quinta Inns
The La Quinta Inns are typically a favored place for people to stay. Unfortunately, one guest had nothing but long hair and bad times. According to the TripAdvisor reviewer, this was the first bad review they'd ever written about a hotel.
They said, "not only was the hair in the bathroom, it was in our bed. Needless to say, it was hard to go to sleep thinking of this hair...A manager never visited the room to see our situation."
A Black Light Mess At A Ramada Hotel
First off, bringing a black light to a hotel room is never a great idea. That being said, the Ramada Inn really should prioritize cleaning their carpets a bit better.
Not only the carpet, but one TripAdvisor reviewer said, "The sheets also had stains. When I went into the bathroom, there were still long hairs in the sink."
Pretty Much Everything Is Wrong With The Hawthorn Suites
When a guest cautions other people never to lodge at a particular hotel, it is definitely for a reason. This particular reason happened to be that there was nothing right with The Hawthorn Suites.
According to one guest's TripAdvisor review, the "trash was not emptied when we occupied room. They did empty it after the complaint. Mouse droppings under the kitchen sink. The bed was NOT comfortable. management NOT friendly and NOT responsive to things that needed to be fixed."
The Quality Inn Smells Like Both Bleach And Mildew
There is no reason why a hotel hallway should reek of bleach only to have a mildew-smelling room. Alas, that is exactly what happened to one of the guests staying at the Quality Inn.
In their TripAdvisor review, the guest wrote, "the halls smelled of bleach and cleaning products. This should be a good thing, but it wasn't. It smelled like they were trying to cover up something. I opened the door to a room that smelled heavily of mildew and had a LOT of moisture in the air. It smelled AWFUL!!"
Black Mold At Westin Hotels
Black mold isn't good for anyone's respiratory system. The fact that one guest found some while staying at a Westin Hotel should be enough to deter people from the chain. And that wasn't the only thing they found wrong!
On TripAdvisor, they said, "black mold under the handicap rail in the shower, shaving cream on the tile from the last guest, dirty grout."
Don't Plan To Shower At The Microtel Inn
When pretty much the entire bathroom doesn't work, it's not going to be a good hotel stay. At least, that is what happened for this one Microtel Inn guest.
According to their TripAdvisor review, "There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom...The shower didn't work properly, and the sink wouldn't drain."
The Bed Bugs Bite At The Residence Inn
The last thing anyone wants in a hotel bed is bed bugs. That's why one guest is warning people away from staying at the Residence Inn. According to them, they were bitten throughout the night.
In their TripAdvisor review, they said, "I spent most of my vacation doing laundry and bagging, so we didn't take the bugs home. A live bug was found in the bed."
