These People Are Too Tall For Japan
If you're looking to go on an adventure, look no further than Japan. The country is full of delicious food, unbelievable cityscapes, crazy technology, interesting wildlife, and vibrant culture. Just be aware that when you go to Japan, the people there might be a bit shorter than you. If you're around 6 feet or taller, this country isn't really built for your kind.

Too Tall For The Hallway
The two Japanese ladies in kimonos are walking through this hallway without any problems. Look at them strutting their stuff like the street is their runway. This American, on the other hand, well, he's having a tougher time.
This probably isn't the first time he's had to mind his head while walking through Japanese spaces. We just hope he didn't end up bumping his head on one of those orange beams. Stay safe, tall friend.
How Is He Supposed To Shower?
This man is six feet and three inches tall. That means that he is much too tall for Japan. I'm not saying he should have painted himself green and terrorized the city Godzilla style, but I'm also not not saying that...
It would be the perfect revenge for only being able to take showers from the sternum down for his entire vacation. His hair must have been pretty dirty. Other tall people be warned: this could happen to you too.
Standing Out In The Crowd
Hey, let's play a game. Can you spot the American in this photo? This looks like the opening shot of a movie or something. That guy in the middle is our main character, and he's just given us an introductory voiceover that goes something like, "have you ever felt like you just don't fit in?"
It must be pretty cool to always be able to see where you're going in a big crowd like this.
The Opposite Of A Headshot
These two tall people went to Japan in 2018, and they hit up Thai Festival in Yogi Park. While at the festival, they stood behind this photo frame to try to get a cool shot for Instagram. Unfortunately, the frame wasn't quite built for people over six feet.
Everyone in the area found the whole situation very funny though. There were giggles to be had all around. We think this makes for a more memorable photo anyway.
Careful On Those Stairs
If you're a tall person, be very careful when you're walking down stairs in Japan. Low ceilings really can sneak up on you. This guy was just minding his own business, walking down a flight of stairs, when all of a sudden a wall came out of nowhere.
Maybe tall people should just always be wearing helmets while they're in Japan. It sounds silly, but it would save a lot of people from painful head injuries.
Mind Your Head
This Reddit user is six feet and six inches tall. That is much too tall for Japan. It's nice that he was warned to mind his head, but really that sign should say, "mind everything from your chest up."
This guy probably didn't have it easy on his trip out East, however, if you're six foot six, then you're kind of tall everywhere, not just in Japan. This guy probably has a lot of tall people problems.
Cooking In Japan
We've already seen that walking up and down stairs can be problematic for tall people in Japan, but what about just standing still, minding your own business, and stirring up some ground beef over a hot stove? Nope, apparently that's problematic too. I bet he wishes that range hood would give him a little bit more range.
This guy should start his own cooking show called Little Kitchen, Big Problems. Maybe he should try not being tall next time.
Just Another Day At The Aquarium
This guy, whose name is David judging by his Instagram handle, visited the Osaka Aquarium in Kaiyukan, Japan. In the aquarium's gift shop, he came in contact with this giant mounted stuffed whale or shark or stingray (we're not quite sure what this thing is supposed to be).
Well, David is too tall for Japan, which means that this marine animal was perfectly positioned to take a sizable bite out of the to of David's head.
Not very Enlightening
This guy stayed at the Japanese hostel pictured above for exactly one night. Guess how many times he hit his head on that light fixture. Eight. Eight times. The only way this situation could get any worse would be if that were a ceiling fan instead of a light fixture.
The corners on that thing do look very aggressive, though. Be mindful of hanging lights, tall people. You never know when one is going to sneak up on you.
Bend Down And Say Cheese
This guy kindly asked a random passer-by to take a picture of him and his friends hanging out with some bathing snow monkeys in Nagano, Japan. He checked the photo later and this is what he saw. At least all the monkeys got their heads in the shot.
Tall people, a piece of advice, just sit down whenever you're having your photo taken. It makes things easier for everybody involved. Aren't your legs tired from being long all the time anyway?
Raise The Roof
A man named Rob who is very tall posted this picture on Instagram with the caption, "We came, we saw, we raised the roof." That you did, Rob. That you did. Let this be a lesson to all of you other tall boys out there. The ceilings in Japan are pretty low. Always stand up slowly in Japanese buildings to avoid concussions.
You might just want to walk around with your hands above your head at all times, Protect your delicate cranium.
At Least He Got A Warning
This guy is exactly 6 feet tall, which isn't even super tall by American standards. In Japan, though, he's too tall for the train stations. At least there are large black and yellow caution stripes on those low ceilings. Japan is aware that there are people taller than 5'7'' who use their buildings. They still aren't going to make the ceilings higher, though.
This guy actually proposed to his girlfriend on this trip to Japan. Congrats, dude!
He's Taller Than The Padding
Those caution strips appear to be more than just a warning sign. It looks like they're actually padded so if you do hit your head on the ceiling, it won't hurt as much. The problem is, this guy is actually taller than the padding.
Nice try, Japan. It was a good effort. This guy is also around six feet. I wonder how people even taller than him navigate this train station. Their necks must hurt from bending down all the time.
Just Never Stand Up
This guy visited Japan and had a difficult time just standing up in rooms. He is six feet and seven inches tall, though. A person that tall would stand out in pretty much any room, except maybe in a room of basketball players.
This guy just shouldn't stand up in Japan. It's too dangerous. Get him a wheelchair or something so he can get around and just lever let him assume a standing position. Safety first.
Short Sinks, Tall Problems
This girl is five feet and ten inches tall, which is tall, but not that tall. She stayed in a hotel in Tokyo that had a sink so low she had to bend at a ninety-degree angle just to wash her face. She mentioned that using the shower was no easy feat either.
That sink looks pretty low even by short people standards— or maybe she's just making it look short because she's so tall.
Tall Friends Stick Together
These to friends are six foot three and six foot four respectively. This traditional Japanese abode that they're staying in has pretty low ceilings. I wonder how many times they hit their heads on that door frame this trip.
This photo kind of looks like an album cover, though, so that's pretty cool. At least they got a nice picture and some internet points out of being too tall for Japan. They're also very nicely dressed.
The Gnarly Consequences
This is what happens when you don't listen to all of those signs and black and yellow caution tape. This guy is six foot three and he lived in a traditional Japanese house in Japan for two months. There were lots of exposed wooden beams.
Let's set aside the fact that the top of this guy's head is very egg-shaped for a moment. That looks super painful. Somebody send this guy a helmet as soon as possible.
This Guy Doesn't Like Japanese Hotels Very Much
Hotels in Japan can be tricky if you're a tall person. This guy is seven feet tall, which is too tall even for America, but in Japan, he's pretty much a giant. Imagine going to open a door but the top of the door only comes up to your chin. Short people, I know you have problems too, but you will never have this problem.
In fact, all short people should book a trip to Japan right now.
Free Brain Cell Remover
This guy visited Japan in 2017. While he was there, he posted these photos on Instagram with the caption, "The free brain cell removal rooflines are a common fixture in Japan."
I wonder how many tall people come back from Japan with fewer brain cells than they had when they left. I guess all of that delicious sushi is worth a few brain cells. They say fish is supposed to be brain food, right? Just eat a lot of sashimi and you'll be right as rain.
Even Outside Isn't Safe
This guy was minding his own business, walking outdoors, when out of nowhere he encountered a structure that was too small for his tall body. Nowhere is safe in Japan for tall people. You think you're outside under a very tall sky and then all of a sudden, you walk into a low archway.
